The shower stall is the part of your bathroom with the shower, shower pan, and a few other parts.
Basically, it is where you get to wash the dirt off your body before or after other activities in the bathroom. For most people, it is the last place before finishing a bathing session.
In most bathrooms, the shower stall is enclosed either with a wall or glass panels. These parts of the shower stall easily pick up dirt in the form of scum and grout with each shower session.
For proper cleaning and generally keeping them clean, the following sections will direct you. Weekly cleaning of these areas will not only keep the stall clean but also deny dirt a chance of building up.
Besides the thorough cleaning described below, ensure you wipe all the parts of your shower stall after a shower.
As a word of caution, read the labels of each product you use to avoid damaging some items. Vinegar should not be used on glued, waxed and rubber surfaces.
Doors And Doorknobs
Doors and doorknobs are easily splashed with soapy water when you take a shower and build up soap scum in the process.
This dirt can be wiped off with a commercial cleaner such as WD-40 or a homemade solution like water and white vinegar in a 50/50 ratio. For either product, here’s how to clean a shower stall properly.
- Make a solution of WD-40 or a 50/50 mix of water and white vinegar, (you can use the vinegar on its own if you please) and a non-abrasive sponge.
- Spray the vinegar solution or WD-40 onto the shower doors and door knobs.
- Allow it 15 minutes to work on the accumulated dirt.
- Wipe the dirt off the doors and doorknobs then rinse the surfaces with copious amounts of water.
- Clean the floor where the water and WD-40 or vinegar dropped.
Avoid working in closed areas with these products as they may emit fumes that could chock you. Also, use rubber gloves for the wiping if you have them.
Shower Head
While the soapy water rarely comes into contact with the shower head, hard water can build up lime in the shower head leading to a restricted water flow.
The remedy for this is using white vinegar to unclog it as stated in the steps below:
- Fill a plastic bag with white vinegar.
- Wrap it around the shower head ensuring the whole head is fully submerged. Keep it that way overnight.
- Remove the bag with vinegar from the shower head then flush the dirt out.
Given that vinegar eats away at metal if left for too long, pour water all over the shower head to rinse all the vinegar off it.
Cleaning Shower Stall Walls
Whether your shower stall has walls made of glass, tiles or paint, you can have them sparkling clean with the right equipment. For this particular cleaning exercise, you will need the following:
- A non-abrasive sponge.
- WD-40 or white vinegar.
Spray the white vinegar or WD-40 evenly on the wall then wait for 15 minutes. Afterwards, wipe the wall evenly with the sponge then rinse it with large amounts of water.
Shower Pan
The shower pan is the floor part of the shower stall where the water collects and goes down the drain.
For stability, it is made either from rubber or Chloraloy. For this part of the shower stall, avoid using white vinegar since it harms rubber surfaces by eating the rubber away.
Use WD-40 as if cleaning the wall to have a sparkling shower pan.
Cleaning The Drain in The Shower Stall
Nothing beats a mix of white vinegar and bicarbonate soda in unclogging drains. You will also need several jugs of boiling water and a wet cloth for this cleaning routine.
After gathering these items, the stages below are all you need:
- Pour a considerable amount of hot water into the drain.
- Take half a cup (120ml) of bicarbonate soda into the drain then give it about 10 minutes.
- Pour into the drain a half cup of white vinegar followed by hot water then cover the drain for a quarter an hour (15 minutes) with a wet piece of cloth.
- Pour more hot water down the drain to clear away the ingredients.
The reaction between the ingredients and with the dirt does away with the dirt leaving your drain clear. If the first flashing does not work, do it again until the drain is completely clear.
